Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE, Nasdaq: VZ) and Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO) today announce they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Verizon will acquire Yahoo’s operating business for approximately $4.83 billion in cash, subject to customary closing adjustments.
Yahoo informs, connects and entertains a global audience of more than 1 billion monthly active users** — including 600 million monthly active mobile users*** through its search, communications and digital content products. Yahoo also connects advertisers with target audiences through a streamlined advertising technology stack that combines the power of their data, content and technology.
“Just over a year ago we acquired AOL to enhance our strategy of providing a cross-screen connection for consumers, creators and advertisers. The acquisition of Yahoo will put Verizon in a highly competitive position as a top global mobile media company, and help accelerate our revenue stream in digital advertising.”
Lowell McAdam, Verizon Chairman and CEO
Yahoo will be integrated with AOL under Marni Walden, EVP and President of the Product Innovation and New Businesses organization at Verizon.
“Yahoo is a company that has changed the world, and will continue to do so through this combination with Verizon and AOL. The sale of our operating business, which effectively separates our Asian asset equity stakes, is an important step in our plan to unlock shareholder value for Yahoo. This transaction also sets up a great opportunity for Yahoo to build further distribution and accelerate our work in mobile, video, native advertising and social.”
Marissa Mayer, CEO of Yahoo
Mayer added, “Yahoo and AOL popularized the Internet, email, search and real-time media. It’s poetic to be joining forces with AOL and Verizon as we enter our next chapter focused on achieving scale on mobile. We have a terrific, loyal, experienced and quality team, and I couldn’t be prouder of our achievements to date, including building our new lines of business to $1.6 billion in GAAP revenue in 2015. I’m excited to extend our momentum through this transaction.”
“Our mission at AOL is to build brands people love, and we will continue to invest in and grow them. Yahoo has been a long-time investor in premium content and created some of the most beloved consumer brands in key categories like sports, news and finance.”
Tim Armstrong, CEO of AOL
Under Armstrong, AOL has invested in and grown global premium brands, including The Huffington Post, TechCrunch, Engadget, MAKERS and AOL.com, and market-leading programmatic platforms — including ONE by AOL for both advertisers and publishers.
Armstrong added, “We have enormous respect for what Yahoo has accomplished: this transaction is about unleashing Yahoo’s full potential, building upon our collective synergies, and strengthening and accelerating that growth. Combining Verizon, AOL and Yahoo will create a new powerful competitive rival in mobile media, and an open, scaled alternative offering for advertisers and publishers.”
The addition of Yahoo to Verizon and AOL will create one of the largest portfolios of owned and partnered global brands with extensive distribution capabilities. Combined, AOL and Yahoo will have more than 25 brands in its portfolio for continued investment and growth. Yahoo’s key assets include market-leading premium content brands in major categories including finance, news and sports, as well as one of the most popular email services globally with approximately 225 million monthly active users****. Additional technology assets in the advertising space include Brightroll, a programmatic demand-side platform; Flurry, an independent mobile apps analytics service; and Gemini, a native and search advertising solution.
The deal is subject to customary closing conditions, approval by Yahoo’s shareholders, and regulatory approvals, and is expected to close in Q1 of 2017. Until the closing, Yahoo will continue to operate independently, offering and improving its own products and services for users, advertisers, developers and partners.
Verizon will generally issue cash-settled Verizon RSUs for Yahoo RSUs that are outstanding at the close.
The sale does not include Yahoo’s cash, its shares in Alibaba Group Holdings, its shares in Yahoo Japan, Yahoo’s convertible notes, certain minority investments, and Yahoo’s non-core patents (called the Excalibur portfolio). These assets will continue to be held by Yahoo, which will change its name at closing and become a registered, publicly traded investment company. Yahoo will provide additional information about the investment company at a future date.
Transaction will create a new rival in mobile media technology reaching over 1B users* with an unrivaled roster of the world’s most beloved brands.
Yahoo intends to return substantially all of its net cash to shareholders and will determine and communicate a specific capital return strategy at an appropriate time.

The IPhone is probably one of the most amazing innovations in the history of the all human innovations. And yes, I am an Apple Fan boy. How can one not be an Apple fan boy? Especially when it is a company that consistently raises the bar for itself and its competitors and manages to delivers every time. Apple has been a pioneer in Smartphone technology and any other Smartphone manufacturer aspires to reach the bar but falls deplorably short. In this article I will tell you some of the lesser known facts about the IPhone.
- The Passcode: Did you know that instead of numbers you can enter alphabets for the passcode? For instance you could enter ‘open’ or ‘tsup’ as a passcode. Here is how you do it. Go to Settings>General>Passcode lock. There is a setting that says ‘’Simple passcode’’. Turn it off and you will be able to include alphabets as well.
- Siri: There are some amazing things that Siri can do for you. Siri can read out your emails. I guess you knew that. But do you know that Siri can find out the planes that are flying above your head? Just ask her ‘’what flights are above me’’ or ‘’planes overhead’’ and she will supply a list of planes that are flying above you. It takes some time but it works. How great is that? Huh?
- Texting: most of us cannot get our texts correct the first time can we? Editing is always necessary. If you need to do so just shake the phone while typing and it will pop up a window with options that allows you to edit what you typed.
- Typing: we need to always alternate between lower case and upper case letters. On an IPhone you can hold the shift key to turn on the caps lock.
- Level indicator: The sensors on an IPhone are quite sensitive and the utility depends on your imagination. You can use the level indicator for several purposes like hanging up a picture. Swipe the screen to get a compass.
- Purchases locks: If you have kids they will definitely fiddle with your phone. In order to switch off the ability to purchase through apps, you can do so by going to ‘general>restrictions’
- High speed photography: you can use the camera app to take bursts at high speed. Just hold down the shutter button on your screen and the IPhone will take photos in rapid succession.
- Timestamps: this is for those who wondered where the timestamps on their messages were. All you have to do is swipe the message screen to the left and you will see the time stamps. Simple!!
- Alternate shutter button: if you feel that using the shutter icon on the screen leads to camera shake, you can also use the volume button to take pictures. Helps keep your hands steady.
- Finally, we all want to charge our phones real quick don’t we? With the IPhone, you can switch to airplane mode and the phone will charge twice as fast.

The Internet is awash with iPhone 5 rumours – so what are the most likely specs for the new device. We try and sort the likely truth from the wild speculation
iPhone 5 will have an aluminum cover
This is likely and would be a welcome improvement by many. The iPhone 4’s glass cover had some horror stories with numerous reports of cracks and breaks. The aluminum casing would harden the device up. Rumours are that the phone will still have a similar front to the iPhone 4 but have an iPhone 3GS like back – mixing the best of both worlds. Apple knows what works and is well known to keep the same designs for years- this hybrid may be a very real option.
Apple will have the new iOS5 operating system which has much of what we expected. One of the most welcome additions being the wireless syncing that end the necessity to link to iTunes. This freedom from wires along with the new release of iCloud will be a game changer. The device will also now pull out adverts and Flash images to make pages easier to load. There will also be a number of quick innovations like better links with Twitter and other little tweaks.
The device will also almost certainly be a dual core and use the same processor that is used in the iPad 2 – the A5 chip. This will give the device the brawn to perform some very powerful tasks and take it up a notch on the iPhone 4. Rumours also suggest it will have NFC and an improved antenna, making sure of no dropped call issues like the iPhone 4 suffered.
The device may have a 5mp or an 8mp however it will more than likely have a new sensor and flash. This will mean less washed out night club photos and hopefully better pictures. There are also rumours the new camera will be made by Sony, who have used the Exmor R sensor to acclaim on the Xperia Arc – this is more likely speculation than fact.
Using the old and often failed belief that there is no smoke without fire, we also believe there is an iPhone Nano on the horizon. This may be half the size of the original and is a trend that is coming to the fore with all manufacturers as it allows scaled down versions of phones to be sold at lower prices to consumers.
This last example is perhaps the least likely, as Apple has usually stuck to one phone release per year and have always marketed their phones as premium status symbols, rendering the idea of an ‘affordable’ iPhone quite unlikely. One thing is for sure though, whatever finally gets included in the next iPhone, it is sure to be a big seller.
Introduction about Apple iPhone
The iPhone is Apple’s first Internet-enabled smartphone. It combines the features of a mobile phone, wireless Internet device, and iPod into one package.
Watch below the video of Steve Jobs introducing the iPhone at Apple’s MacWorld 2007 event.
The iPhone can function as a video camera , a camera phone, can send texts and receive visual voicemail, a portable media player, and an Internet client with e-mail and web browsing capabilities, and both Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity.
The most innovative feature of the iPhone is its multitouch screen with virtual keyboard.
i-e The Touch screen allows items onscreen to be manipulated by two finger touches, rather than just one.
iPhone uses Apple’s mobile operating System iOS.
The iPhone is managed with Apple iTunes. The iTunes can connect to the iTunes Store to purchase and download music, music videos, television shows, iPod Games, Audiobooks, Podcasts, movies and movie rentals , and Ringtones. And, it is also used to download Apps from the App Store.
The Apple App Store is currently having more than 350,000 “apps” approved by Apple. They include games, reference, GPS navigation, social networking, security and advertising for television shows, films, and celebrities.
And, Apps Developers can distribute their Applications thro’ the Apple App Store. They are free to set any price of their Application, and they will get 70% share.
As of now, iPhone has seen 4 models (iphone, iphone 3G, iphone 3GS, iPhone 4) and people are expecting the release iPhone 5.
Apple is producing iPhone for GSM (AT&T connection) and for CDMA (Verizon connection) also.
By default Apple releases the iphone locked with specific carrier and it won’t allow installation of any third-party applications.
So, if you want to install any third-party applications you need to jailbreak it. And, if you want to use SIM card of any other carrier, you need to unlock the iPhone. You can read more about jailbreaking and unlocking here.
Safari is the iPhone’s native web browser, and we can see the pages in landscape or potrait mode. The iPhone won’t supports Flash and Java.
Currently it is available in Black color and White color.
It is having Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery which can be recharged using USB of computer or by power adapter.

iPhone 4 vs. iPhone 5
With iPhone 4 nearing a year old and the advent of iPhone 5, what changes can we expect from Mr Jobs and Apple in the new device?
Well, we should expect the iPhone 5 cometh at the end of June/start of July though there are rumours it has been delayed in the midst of the Japanese earthquake and strong competition from Android devices. So, what changes can we expect to see?
Rumours are that the new iPhone will use the A5 chip found in the iPad 2. This super-fast processor is twice the power of that found in the iPhone 4 and should be well capable of running the most power draining software with ease. The A5 is really a push forward for the iPhone 5 and should put it at the summit of the mobile phone hill again.
Screen wise, the whisperers are suggesting that the new iPhone may have between a 3.7in and 4in screen. The new phone is also said to come with a super thin bezel around the edge, which will really limit the size if there is a screen increase. Google ‘iPhone 5’ to see an array of different Photoshop versions for your disdain or pleasure.
The iPhone 4 had a vastly improved camera compared to that of the iPhone 3GS and it is expected that iPhone 5 will have an increase again – an 8mp camera with a dual LED at the back and a 2mp on the front perhaps – though the iPad 2 has a VGA front facing flasher so who’s to know. There is also mention of 1080p recording to bring it into line with most new Android phones on the market.
There is also a suggestion of a complete rethink on design, with a move away from the glass back towards a metal one. The shape is also perhaps a move away from the traditional style, or so rumours from China suggest. Other suggestions of a smaller version of the iPhone 5 like an iPhone 5 Nano have also been circulated, but seem a little unlikely.
Currently it has also been suggested that there will be NFC support to turn the iPhone 5 into a digital wallet as well as LTE super fast internet. This would give the iPhone 5, 4G capabilities – confusing looking in writing.
Rumours are now circulating that the next upcoming Apple phone will not be the iPhone 5 but the iPhone 4S, a slight modification of the earlier iPhone 4 with many of the touted features like NFC and LTE not being implemented in this next release. The thing about all of the above is that we can’t be sure until release, unless a worker leaves a prototype in a bar again. However, we can be sure that it will be an improvement in speed, processing power and memory on the previous incarnation; it is just debatable whether these improvements will be small or large scale.
How To Unlock an iPhone?
Unlocking of an iPhone is required to use the SIM Card of any cell carrier with your iPhone.
Unlocking is the process of changing the firmware and/or hardware of the iPhone to allow it to be used with other carriers.
Assume that you have bought an Apple iPhone by signing contract or agreement with Verizon Wireless. In this case you can NOT use SIM cards (Smart cards) of other carriers unless you unlock it.
When you travel to a country which is not provided with verizon service, either your iPhone will become useless or you need to unnecessarily pay more money to the partner carrier of verizon.
iPhone unlocking is required to avoid this issue. i-e Iphone unlocking will enable you to use any SIM card so that you can use your iPhone in any country without paying more.
The iPhone, iPad or any other device should be jailbroken before Unlocking them to use any SIM card.
Jailbreaking is the process of modifying the underlying operating system to allow the installation of third party applications into the previously protected (“locked”) OS directory structure and system of the iPhone.
Jailbreaking a device gives access to its root filesystem, allowing modification and installing Third-party software components. This allows the users to enable features that were previously unavailable.
Jailbreaking is legal in most of the countries including United States. But, Apple has announced that the jailbreaking “can void the warranty.”
And, the jailbreaking process won’t modify the hardware, so it can be quickly and easily reversed simply by restoring the operating system through iTunes.
Instead of doing software unlocking, we can buy a factory unlocked iPhone. These iPhones come SIM unlocked straight from Apple, and we need not jailbreak them using third party software.
iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch running iOS can still use the App Store and iTunes after jail breaking them. And other normal functions, such as making telephone calls will NOT be affected by the jailbreaking process. Jailbreaking iPhone is similar to rooting an Google Android device.
And, make sure that you are doing Untethered Jailbreaking which will NOT require you to connect your device with computer while booting your device. Otherwise, if you use Tethered jailbreaking, you need to connect your device with the computer whenever you reboot your device or while replacing battery of your device.
It is estimated that more than 10% of all iPhones are jailbroken.
Most of Unlocking/jail breaking service providers will be giving 100% money back guarantee. i-e If they are not able to unlock your iPhone, they will give your money.

White iPhone 4 shows up in Verizon’s inventory.
9to5mac.com is reported that Verizon is set to launch both 16 GB and 32 GB white iPhone 4 models and the devices have already popped up in Verizon’s internal inventory database. Apple has confirmed over and over again that the white iPhone 4 will come this spring (which is from now until early June) and independent reports claim that we’ll be seeing the white iPhone by the end of April.
Since people are expecting the release of iPhone 5, this white iphone 4 is NOT getting much attraction from the users.
WSJ has mentioned that Apple declined to comment about which carrier would initially carry the white iPhone 4. Bloomberg earlier reported that both AT&T and Verizon Wireless would get the white version.
Apple has delayed the release of white iphone by saying reason as white iPhone was “more challenging to manufacture than expected,”
Apple Confirms Verizon iPad 2 Glitch
Apple has confirmed a glitch with the Verizon iPad 2 that is causing users to experience connectivity problems.
Wall Street Journal has published below report.
Apple says a “small number” of Verizon iPad 2 customers are experiencing connectivity problems, acknowledging the problem after message boards filled this week with customers complaining they are having difficultly accessing Verizion Wireless’s 3G data network.
An Apple spokeswoman says the company is investigating the issue. She wouldn’t say how many iPads were affected, or how soon a fix would be sent out. Verizon declined to comment, deferring to Apple
Some iPad 2 users are having trouble reconnecting to the Verizon 3G network after they turn it off the connection. One fix circulating around the Internet has been to turn the cellular data switch to on and then reboot the tablet by turning it off and back on again. Another message board user has suggested erasing the content of the iPad after backing up the data, which others have commented as effective.
